Favourite LGBT+ Romances

#SixForSunday is a prompt run by the fabulous Steph over at alittlebutalot - link here for more!

This week on #SixForSunday it’s all things LGBT+ Romances! I’m aware that this could be quite spoiler-y, so please proceed with caution! But here are some of my favourite queer romances.

1. Heartstopper by Alice Oseman.

I appreciate that I also mentioned Nick and Charlie last week - but also, Heartstopper is incredible. I love the fact that the two of them are so considerate with each other, checking in, always respecting the other person whether that’s in their decision-making or whether it’s them asking the other person how they are. They are just so delightful it makes me smile just thinking about it.

2. Date Me, Bryson Keller by Kevin van Whye.

This is a recent read (I’m trying to not just repeat the same books, haha) and I did genuinely love the romance in this one. It was quite predictable from the off, but actually it surprised me as we got further in to the story as it wasn’t as superficial as I expected. Surprisingly good fun.

3. The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon.

Another repeat from last week, I know, but frankly I don’t come across many sapphic romances so the ones I do come across I’m going to blimin’ well shout about. All the relationships in Priory are done so well (there’s not just sapphic romance in here either, people!) that it would be criminal for me to not add Priory to this list.

4. Release by Patrick Ness.

This isn’t a romance as such, but it is about a character who goes on a journey, part of which is to do with his sexuality and who he fancies. Patrick Ness writes relationships so well that even though I wouldn’t say any of his books are ‘romances’ in the typical sense, there is always a romantic element in his books and it’s always done beautifully, even if the romance isn’t a happily-ever-after.

5. Simon Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli.

Again, I get that this is a really popular title, but I read the book twice and watched the film about five times when it came out and I will never tire of this heartwarming and adorable story. Also the trailer for Love, Victor looks fantastic and how do I get Hulu in the UK?!

6. Carry On and Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell.

I know, I know, I tried so hard to make sure that I didn’t repeat myself too much, but honestly my love for SnowBaz knows no bounds. And in fairness to Rainbow Rowell, I actually really like what she does with their relationship in the follow-up, Wayward Son. It’s really interesting to see how post-saving the world impacts on their relationship and their dynamic.

What are your favourite queer romances? Please give me all of your recommendations - especially for romances that aren’t mlm, which seem to make up the majority for me at the moment. What great sapphic romances are out there? What about ace romances? Queer romances from across the spectrum, please!
