Six Of Crows Book Tag

Six Of Crows Book Tag

Pals, I’ve done it. I’ve finally finished the entire Grishaverse. I am a mess of feels. The good news is, I can now finally finish the SoC book tag that the wonderful Layla @readablelife tagged me in after I’d finished SoC last year!

(Yes, I have also finished watching the Netflix adaptation of Shadow and Bone. I’m going to try and cohere my thoughts when I’ve stopped emoting everywhere…)

Kaz - A book that you value the most in your collection

This has to be my ARC of Priory. It takes pride of place on my ‘collector’s edition’ shelf next to the hardback and paperback editions!

Although I was tempted to say my copy of More Than This by Patrick Ness - it’s not my favourite Ness, but when he signed it we had a chat about writing and he wrote ‘good luck with the writing’ in the cover, which will always be special for me because it will remind me of that chat in the signing queue!

Inej - A book that stabbed you in the heart with feels

Can I say Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom?! I am deceased. Cannot cope. While we’re at it, let’s add Rule of Wolves to this list. *wails*

Other honourable mentions go to *that* chapter of The Knife Of Never Letting Go or *that* moment in The Ask And The Answer. So cryptic! But if you know… you know.

Jesper - A book that you took a gamble on that paid off

I initially avoided A Pocketful of Stars because it seemed incredibly similar to A Monster Calls, which is one of favourite books ever, but I’m so please I did pick it up! It’s so sweet, and deals with what is a distressing time really sensitively and beautifully.

Nina - A favourite book with an awesome magic system

I always loved the magical system in the Abhorsen books by Garth Nix, particularly Lirael. The whole idea about Charter Marks and the Abhorsen’s bells is so interesting (I love a bit of magic and death) and I really love this magic system. I really recommend these books!

Matthias - A book that seemed intimidating, but you really enjoyed by the end

So I was actually quite intimidated by Daughter of Smoke and Bone before I started it. Not because the book was huge or anything, but because I’d put off reading Laini Taylor for so long and I knew that EVERYONE loves her books. Luckily, I adored it and can’t wait to read the next in the series!

Wylan - A book that had a surprising ending

I was really quite surprised with the abruptness of the ending for The Beast Player. Turns out it’s because it’s in translation and the translations are bind-ups on the volumes as they were originally published. It is a beautiful novel though, and deserves way more love and appreciation! The sequel is now out - The Beast Warrior.

Kuwei Yul-Bo - A book that you have a fiery passion for

So many titles (and I’ve already added SoC/CK to my best-books-ever list!) but aside from the Dregs, I’d say Heartstopper and Chaos Walking. I’ve had to apologise to the school librarian / bought more copies of the books I wang on about because students kept asking for them. Oops.

Pekka Rollins - A book that you felt betrayed you

I feel betrayed by the ending of Venom! Yes, Bex Hogan, by that ending. I am still internally screaming, and it has been actual months.

Tante Heleen - A book with a stunning cover that you didn’t love

I recently DNF’d All The Stars And Teeth by Adalyn Grace. I was hoping for pirate-y excitement, but unfortunately the characters and the setting didn’t really feel fully fleshed out for me quickly enough, and I didn’t feel like pursuing it in the hope that it might get better later on. However, as usual, I donated my unhaul of it to the school library, so hopefully another reader will love it!

Jordie - A book that you thought about for weeks after finishing it

Apart from Rule of Wolves (wail) I’d say Hold Back The Tide by Melinda Salisbury. The TWISTS! It’s also a book whose release date clashed with the whole global mess that was 2020, which means it’s suffered. And that’s just not fair, because I think it’s Mel’s best book yet! Do go and get yourself a copy and share the love for this twisty, creepy tale!

You can see Layla’s post and the tag here.

At some point I might actually be able to get my feels in shape to try and do justice to a review of the Six of Crows duology, but I’m still at the ‘screaming incoherently’ stage of my Grisha feels.
