My Summer #BookHiBearNation TBR

My Summer #BookHiBearNation TBR

Earlier this year I took part in Simon Savidge’s first #BookHiBearNation and really loved it! Now it’s time for the summer edition - a whole week long! Huzzah! - and here’s what I’ve got planned for the week…

The readathon runs from 1st-8th August. The video announcing the Summer #BookHiBearNation is here and my last #BookHiBearNation post is here!

Basic Bear Prompts:

1. Sunburned: A Book With A Red Cover

I have basically no books with red covers, but luckily my pre-order of The Beast Warrior arrived the other day and that’s a pretty red book, so I’m looking forward to getting to this! It’s the sequel to The Beast Player, which I read and loved earlier this year. It’s also nearly 700 pages long… so if it’s looking like that’s a bit much for me to read in a week, then I think I’ll double up with prompt four!

2. Hot or Cold: A Book Set Somewhere Super Warm or Super Cold

I’m going with the super warm option for this and will be reading The City Of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty, which is set in Cairo. I’ve heard so many incredible things about the Daevabad trilogy, and I know that the final book has just come out, so I really need to catch up with the hype! It’s rare I see a book that seems to have no negative comments - I’m so excited to get stuck in!

3. Summer Sun: A Book With A Summer/Sun Cover, or The Word ‘Sun’ In The Title

This one is a bit of a cheat, but I’m going to read Summer Bird Blue, which I started last year and inexplicably put down despite the fact that I was REALLY ENJOYING IT. Oh, Past Me. So I’m determined to get to this during this readathon! I was also recommended this by Alice Oseman at last year’s YALC when she announced her own ace-rep book, Loveless (which I’ve reviewed here)

4. Holidays: A Book Set Somewhere You’ve Always Wanted To Go On Holiday

I read a LOT of fantasy so this prompt is actually really hard! So for this I’m going to disappear to Ancient Greece, with one of these two: Song of Achilles by Madeleine Miller, or A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes (because I set myself a preposterous TBR for the Reading Rush and haven’t yet finished it). And Song of Achilles can double up as a book with a red cover if The Beast Warrior is a bit of a chonker for the week…

The Extra Beary Prompts:

1. Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda: A Book You Meant To Read In The First Half Of 2020.

*cries in the direction of all my unread books* Okay so this book has been on my TBR since it came out earlier this year, and I’ve failed to get to it in two separate readathons so far this year. Third time lucky I hope for The Paper And Hearts Society: Read With Pride by Lucy Powrie!

2. Wildlife: A Book With An Animal On The Cover That Reminds You Of Summer

For this I’ve got two options: The Explorer by Katherine Rundell, which has lots of parrots on the cover and gives me Journey To The River Sea vibes; or Asha And The Spirit Bird, which has flowers and birds on the cover and feels super summery! I also want to make sure I keep reading lots of MG, and The Explorer in particular has been a super popular title with students in the last academic year, so I need to find out about this book that’s so popular!

3. Read, Read, Read: Read For 24/48 Hours In The Week

I mean I probably will do this, but how do you all track your times? Just start reading and set a timer? But yes. All of the reading.

4. Summer Social: Share A Pic Of Your Fave Summer Reading Spot!

My favourite reading spot in the summertime is definitely my friend’s back garden - at a social distance, of course! - with this absolutely gorgeous ginger (who, as you can see, isn’t interested in social distancing because then HOW are we meant to bestow plentiful love and affection upon him?!)

I’m really looking forward to a cosy week of reading - with any luck I’ll get on to these extra-beary prompts too by the end of the week!

Are you participating in the Summer #BookHiBearNation ? What’s on your TBR? Let me know in the comments!
